It’s incredible how detailed your memory is! I also like how you use the present tense to draw us by the hand through the whole house. It’s like we readers become children alongside you— so interesting.
Such an evocative description of the house you knew so well. ´In that China cabinet are pretty things that I desperately want to hold, but, alas, am forbidden to even touch.’ I remember being fascinated by the china cabinets in my grandparents’ houses.
Thank you! It's interesting how vivid my memory of this house is -- and my brother, after reading this, reminded me of a couple of details that I'd forgotten (e.g. a leaded stain glass window at the top of the indoor stairway). Miranda Lambert did that lovely song, "The House that Built Me" many years ago. This is one of those kind of houses for me and my brother, even though we didn't live in it full time.

Thank you for reading, Victoria!

Lovely!
Thank you so much, Wendy!
I enjoyed this post about the house, its configuration, and its memories. I love photos and maps of places past so this hit the spot!

Your mother was always beautiful, and I loved reading this!
Thank you! ❤️
